Teso Sub Region has been ranked as one of the highest regions selling and hawking government drugs in shift markets in the country.
The manager National Drug Authority in charge of operations Teso Region, Samuel kyomukama confirmed this during a brief interview with our reporter.
Kyomukama, at least 21 suspected drug sellers and hawkers were arrested from different markets during the two weeks operation by the National Drug Authority team as month in Teso Region.
The suspects from Obalanga, Kasilo, Ocaapa, Usuk, Lwala and Amukaro markets were found in the unlawful possession of, displaying, selling and advertising human and veterinary medicines.
According to Kyomukama, drug hawking creates leakages in the supply chain and exposes the public to impure drugs.
The drugs being sold in the open markets are presumed to be of poor quality since they are exposed to unfavorable temperature conditions and risks the health of its consumers.
Meanwhile, Nelson Sooma senior superintendent the Deputy regional police commander East Kyoga pledges to enforce and do community policing against illegal selling of government drugs.
