Driver who caused accident that claimed life of Serere county MP is on the run – Police

The driver who was driving Isuzu box body registration number KCX 071K that collided with the vehicle that the late Serere county MP together with other occupants were travelling in is reported to be on the run according to the Uganda police in a press statement issued this morning by the territorial police at Budaka.

 According to ASP Faridah Nampiima the PRO traffic and road safety directorate in a press statement issued this morning, the fatal accident occured today’s morning at Nabowa town council, along the Mbale Tirinyi Road, involving motor vehicle reg no UBK 995F, a Toyota land Cruiser, and Isuzu box body registration number KCX 071K, killing on spot, the occupant in the Land Cruiser identified as Hon Okabe Patrick the Member of Parliament Serere constituency, while his wife Christine Okabe who died on the way to hospital while the driver only identified as Jacob remains in critical condition at Mbale regional referral hospital. 
According to police, the cause of the accident has been attributed to the Isuzu box body driver who was speeding, drifted from his side to the side of the Landcruiser that was coming from Mbale heading to Iganga and had a head on collision.
