The fishermen at Kampala landing site, Gogonyo Sub County in Pallisa district have been warned against using illegal fishing gears.
This warning was sounded by Martin Arikosi the Ajepet area LC2 chairperson who hinted out that a majority of fishermen at Kampala landing site are catching fish with illegal fishing gears which according to him is against the law.
Arikosi explains that no more illegal fishing gears should be gotten at the landing site adding that whoever shall be discovered using them will be dealt with accordingly.
Some of the fishermen who spoke to this radio revealed that some of them are using illegal fishing because the sub county fisheries officer Mr Daniel Kauta extorts money from them.
However, Daniel Kauta the Gogonyo sub county fisheries officer when contacted responded that there are some leaders in the area who are using his name for extorting money from the fishermen but for him he is innocent.
