Soroti district is expected to host the world wetlands day this year on 2 nd February 2023 Gweri Sub
County headquarters under the theme “wetlands restoration”.
According to Ekwaru, the event is expected to be graced by the vice president of the republic of
Uganda, Major Jessica Alupo as the chief guest among other dignitaries.
He says that there will also be other activities such as tree planting, speeches, a football match
between Oduparak team Soroti and Oduparak team from Arua and various entertainments.
He says that Gweri Sub County was selected to be the venue because the Sub County is surrounded
by a number of wetlands.
