Teso leaders want government to support and promote fish farming

A section of leaders in Teso want government to support and promote fish farming on wet lands as one way of improving house hold income.

The appeal comes as Uganda joins the rest of the world to commemorate the world wetlands day tomorrow in Gweri Sub County.

Simon peter Edoru Ekuu the LC5 soroti district articulates that government should allocate resources and embark on  sensitizing farmers to uphold fish farming as opposed to rice growing.

However the LC3 Gweri Sub County Simon peter Opolot says wetlands have continued to be degraded and encroached upon and are being destroyed at an alarming rate under cultivation.

Abraham Ekwaru the soroti district communications Spokesperson confirms the Vice president Major Jesca Alupo is expected to be the guest of honor.

The theme of the day is “wetlands actions for people and Nature”
