As the government is banning the people from wetlands, local leaders in Butebo district have asked for alternative ways of survival.
Speaking to this radio, John Okia Obiro the Kanyum area LC3 chairperson says that restricting rice growing which checks hunger and reduces poverty is a disservice and will leave a majority of people in a predicament.
Obiro observes that it is true natural resources including wetlands have been encroached by human activity but prompt restriction will raise increasing cases of theft especially by the desperate youth.
The LC3 boss now appeals that bringing on board projects such as piggery, fish farming, poultry keeping and among others will add value to the people as children will access education, the communities get money for medical care and others
