Acute food shortage hits Toroma sub county

Acute shortage of food has hit residents of Toroma sub-county in Katakwi district.

Due to shortage of food the affected families now have one meal a day. Others are finding solace by eating mangoes throughout the day.

Ben Obwalinga, the LC3 chairperson Toroma sub county, attributes the prevailing food shortage to over dependence on rain fed agriculture.

According to Obwalinga over dependence on rain fed agriculture has led to the production of food that cannot adequately sustain families

Julius Odeke the Toroma District LC-5 councilor predicts that the hunger situation will persist until when farmers realize the first harvest.
