The increasing number of fishermen who have drowned in Lake Kyoga has been blamed on stringent laws instituted to stop illegal fishing.
This blame comes following a recent incident where a fisherman drowned at Lake Kyoga as he tried to dodge security guarding the lake to prevent illegal fishing.
According to David Agiti, the LC1 chairperson Okulai village, Kamuda Sub County in Soroti district, 8 casesof death by drowning have been registered at his office.
Although the situation is worrying, he acknowledged that a majority of fishermen involved in unlawful fishing practices as a source of income.
